This page explains the configuration of Google Assistant and Google Home action for realKNX.
Prerequisites
- Preconfigured realKNX (version 3.1+) and proServ.
- A remoteConnect account configured and enabled (see realKNX) .
- An Android or iOS device
To use Google Assistant, remoteConnect must be configured. Additionally, the realKNX action (app in Google Home) must be enabled (details below). The number of devices is ‘unlimited’. The action supports Lights, Scenes and Thermostats. These devices are named ‘realKNX device’ in the device listing in Google Home.
Configuration
Step 1: Install and configure Google Home smart speaker (Android or iOS).
Follow the instructions that came with the Smart Home speaker.
Step 2: Authenticate Google Home to access realKNX devices (Android or iOS).
- Open the Google Home app.
- In the top left corner of the Home screen, tap Menu .
- Verify that the Google Account that is listed is the one linked to Google Home. To switch accounts, click the triangle to the right of the account name.
- In the top left corner of the Home screen, tap Menu and then Home control.
- In the “Devices” tab, at the bottom right tap the ‘+’ to Add.
- Find realKNX in the list of partners and then follow the instructions to login. Use your remoteConnect credentials to authenticate.
- When the pairing is complete, tap Done.
Note: There is no limit to the number of devices you can link to Google Home.
Note: if your devices are not listed, try to refresh (drag down, or leave and re-open)
Step 3: Set nicknames for devices (optional)
You can choose names to call your smart home devices.
- Open the Google Home app .
- In the top left corner of the Home screen, tap Menu and then Home control.
- In the “Devices” tab, tap the device you want to rename.
- Tap Nickname, then enter a nickname, and then tap OK.
- To see your device’s new nickname, tap Device details.
Note: Nicknames are alternate ways to reference lights in the Google Home app. Nicknames you have assigned to lights in the Google Home app are not reflected in realKNX.
Step 4: Assign devices to a room (optional)
To control your devices more easily, assign them to a room.
Add a room
- Open the Google Home app .
- In the top left corner of the Home screen, tap Menu, and then Home control.
- In the “Rooms” tab, at the bottom right tap Add.
- From here you can either:
- Select a room.
- Add a new room: Scroll down, then tap Custom room, then enter a room name, and then OK.
- To add a device to that room, tap the box next to the device name, and then Done. You can add each device to only one room.

- Open the Google Home app .
- In the top left corner of the Home screen, tap Menu and then Home control.
- In the “Rooms” tab, tap the room you want to add the device to.
- Under “Add devices,” choose the device you want to add.
- Tap Done.
